Chocolate Drop sure calved at the wrong time.... Elfy's ears got frosted and now the vet at the farm she went to says she's going to be a three teater. I milked all quarters down halfway the morning she was picked up, so as to leave some for Elfy. One quarter was hard but milked, and good milk, not creamy or clotty. Since it's only been a few days, is their a treatment to get her flowing? Homeopathic, etc? I massaged it since it was hard before and after I milked her partway out.

No expert here Mike, but if she were mine I would be milking the hard quarter, frequently throughout the day. And if you have some Dynamint, rub it into the udder, especially the hard quarter. And dip teats after milking, wipe dry between milkings. Hopefully someone more experienced will be able to help out, but this is the procedure I would try on my own gals if the situation would arise. Have they tested quarter for mastitis?

No mastitis, just found out that when she went over the corral fence she hurt herself. They put on mint and will continue milking it. Thank YOU!!

It sounds like it is pretty common, Mike. I just talked to a gal last night who is selling a cow that got a teat stepped on just before she calved and never produced milk in that quarter as a result. Ouch! I hope they are able to get a handle on Chocolate Drop's injury before it becomes permanent.

Ouch ouch ouch!!! I've wondered how they keep from it sometimes. I've watched them go to stand up and cringe sometimes because it looks as if they are going to step on a teat when getting up. It could happen so easily. Hope Chocolate Drop comes along okay.

Mike, how's Chocolate Drop doing? Has her fourth teat recovered enough and is she able to be milked on that teat yet?
