Woohoo!!! I just got off the phone and FINALLY, I have an appt. in the spring to take Samson to Texas for collection of sexed semen.
I dream of a farm full of heifers. |

I live on a small farm of seventy acres called Green Forest Farm, with 10 horses, a donkey, 5 beef cows, 2 beef heifers, 3 Hereford heifers, around 60 chickens, 8 dogs, my amazing cow, AppleButter, and her little Jersey calf HoneyButter! |

| Or maybe a giant leap for cow-womankind. Yes, Sydney, the idea is to sell it to help defray costs. Janet, if you want to wait to breed your girls until I have some ready, we could swap you out. Just an idea. |

| Thank you MaryJane. I will give it some thought. I'm not certain what I'm going to be doing. With the parlor not getting built (too much rain), I don't know if I will go ahead with it in the spring or just call it quits. Lot's to think over. But I appreciate the option and will definitely keep it in mind. It's exciting news for sure. |

| Definitely, lots to decide, none of it easy. I'm sorry, Janet. Milking a cow every day, mucking, vet care, etc. isn't light work. When you embarked on your milk cow endeavor, you had Colton to help you. It's physically and mentally demanding in the best of circumstances. If there's any relief I can give you, let me know. If you were closer, I'd offer to babysit whenever you needed a break:) |

| Thanks MaryJane. I'd be getting the best babysitter there is. I'm sure we will figure it out. That's life I guess. Colton usually helped with the heavy stuff. Hay, feed, etc. Now it's just Joe and I, and Joe is 71 and not here except for Sunday. And speaking for myself the feed bags and hay bales are getting heavier. Carrying things back and forth are taking a toll too. So have to think things through and see what is best. Thanks again. You're a peach. |

Thanks Cindy! Wouldn't that be a good time?! I would love to see Sal and Elsa and your place and of course you and lover boy, the pugs and chickens, the pastor and his wife, your parents. Is there anyone I'm forgetting?
We've been on a waiting list to be put on THE waiting list so I don't know yet when in the spring we'll be on the be-here-now list. It's a long trip as you well know. We'll also been given the name of a trucker who could make the run for us if we don't feel like it comes at a time we can make a break and run. |

it would be such a hoot! maybe we could get the pastor's wife to bring some deer meat from her harvest. as of last weekend she had taken two deer this year, i think the pastor was a deer behind her. she does both bow and gun hunting, very impressive.
of course now you have me thinking about the girls and getting them pregnant later next year with samson's sexed semen. i noticed samson is a Tumbleweed calf also, and 4 days older than miss sally o'mally, so different mother but do they share a father or not? couldn't find that info, sorry if it is easily found and i missed it. wondering if he would be a good option for sally and/or elsa.
up to this point we have been considering purchasing sir charles semen to continue breeding sally with him as the results seem perfect. what are your thoughts my little bovine breeding buddy? this is our first AI rodeo so we are open to your direction. we like the size of sally, these girls are just perfect for us so want to continue moving forward in the same pattern. we are having sooo much fun daily with both of them, sally for teaching us what we are doing right/wrong and elsa for the love and cuddling - sally isn't exactly the cuddly type but does her job very well, and i keep trying to warm the gal up more and more.

Good morning Cindy,
Sir Anthony was a Samson/Sally O'Mally calf. He inherited Sal's trademark forehead spot (his is actually in the shape of a heart) and carried more of her reddish coloration. He is a gorgeous bull and lounges atop a nearby hill at the Rathbun's.
We can stay in touch regarding your breeding program and Elsa's debut into the breeding world. I'm anxious to see what you get in May. I haven't collected Charlie but could. I do have another bull coming from RoseEtta in March that should have good genetics. And in another month or so, I'll know if Lacy Lou and Charlie have something in the oven. I'm getting a girl from Miss Daisy and Charlie in May (remember Miss Daisy and Sal came into heat at the same time). |

well mary jane we'll just have to keep dreaming of this won't we? it is so exciting, glad we have time to make decisions since we are dealing with all the other "new" stuff for now.
i am very much looking forward to May 9th and it will be a nice surprise for us all. and i got your calendar, that was SWEET and VERY neat for May - i got it right away ;> thanks special lady!! and right in time, i am preparing for 2016 and attempting to get us organized. |
