Hello all! August is upon us, and this poem seemed fitting. Bringing in honey from the hives. Hopefully it will cool off so that it isn't so miserable harvesting. The flow hives are so much nicer and easier to work with. I finally had bees that took to it and they seem to be doing just fine.
Estella is due Aug. 20th.

Love your poem Janet. For sure, gold and scarlet. And baby fawns. And ripening peaches. And sweet HONEY!!! Glad you like your flow hive. I love mine.

I've been planting more Paiute orchard grass in among my B&B venues and covering it with straw so it has a chance to sprout in the heat and lack of rain we're enduring this summer.

After racing Carol to the ER last week, I have her settled into our guesthouse for some R&R. As it turns out, she was passing a kidney stone. Big ouch. But it's nice to have her here. We're scrambling to get the Oct/Nov issue of our magazine off to the printer this week.

I thought you'd get a kick out of the lengths I'll go to to keep ALL the peaches on my tree. I thinned my nectarine tree but couldn't part with so many peaches so I braced all the outer branches.

Hello! So sorry to hear about Carol. Hoping all goes well and she feels better soon. Goodness, what a person has to go through. Lovely picture of your deer and the peach tree. Yes, it would be hard to lose any peaches, the juicy delights. Looks like you have a good handle on keeping them supported. Things seem to be quiet here at this time. Rather nice. Cooler temps, and 1.3" of rain last week and thrilled to get it. Sure hope you get some much needed rain too.

Good evening! Another very warm, and sultry day. Today I had the vet come check Grady's umbilicus because I thought it felt infected. I guess it wasn't as bad as I thought but had him castrate Grady while he was here. He took everything in stride other than he was a bit slow to wake up after the procedure, but when I let his momma in he got up and nursed and they both went out to pasture. Put away more raspberries and some beets today. Time to milk, clean up, and call it a day. 89 degrees at 8:00 p.m. milking. Don't need the sauna on days like this.

We've had nice cool weather but still not any rain. Raspberries and beets here also, lots of raspberries and our nectarines are on. Put some in the dryer yesterday. Those morsels are pure ecstasy.

I had Daisy AI'ed last night. The woman who assisted does a lot of AI and said she's having good luck getting heifers when she AI's exactly 12 hours after standing heat is first noticed. One of her clients wants only club calves, so she AI's her girls at 14 to 16 hours and her client gets boy calves that way. It's worth noting. She couldn't get here to do Daisy until 10 p.m. last night and Daisy would have been between 14 to 16 hours then. I was aiming for 8 p.m. but she got caught up in something else. On Buttercup and Rosetta's next heats, I hope to get her here right at 12 hours. She said she'd be available unless it's during our county fair that runs the 15th through the 19th.

How is Grady doing Janet?

Good morning! Well, almost noon here. 1.1" last week so a bit muddy underfoot. We AI'd Nellie again and she did the same thing as last time. First cycle no heat, second cycle signs of heat, so I am waiting to see how she behaves around Sept. 2-3rd. May just let it go. Grady is doing great. He has one weed in the pasture that he loves to attack every morning. Fun to watch. Its warm and humid here and the flies are being the pests that they are, so the girls are in the weathering pen. Grady is back in the corner. I think temps are to be cooler this week, so will see. Ready for cooler weather.
