29th of July. Whoosh! Good morning all! We've been having the most pleasant mornings. Cool breezes. We had more rain yesterday, but not enough to measure. Sun is shining and it will be getting warm and muggy soon. Cows and calves are doing fine. Another summer day on the farm. Hope yours is a good one!

Good morning Janet. I found cone flowers (echinacea) for sale in pots last week at our local nursery. In addition to the purple, I brought home white, burgundy, and red. I hope to get them planted in the next few days. Lovely plants.

Glad to hear your cow folk are well. Same here. I am down to just Miss Daisy (still giving 2.5 gallons/day) and her daughter, Buttercup (pregnant I hope). Maggie and Lizzy left for Montana yesterday morning to be with M'lady, Maybelle, Sophie, and Ester Lily (Lizzy's mother).

Here they are in their new and loving home.

Good morning MaryJane! Beautiful morning here. Just making mozzarella, and one hundred other things at the moment. Cleaning in the greenhouse, getting ready to plant new crops. Just pulled up spent tomato vines, thankfully I have some in the outdoor garden. Well, Maggie and Lizzy went to a good home and they have quite a little herd now. Milk maids a milking! Hoping for a quiet afternoon and enjoying the sunshine. Here is Estella taking a rest.

Estella is a cutie pie. Millie is Millie. We still have to use the flank rope, but at least she doesn't kick quite so often. She's a nice cow, just has a bit of a dislike for milking. Outside of milking you couldn't ask for a sweeter disposition. We're getting along fine. Otis is getting a good share of the milk and that's fine by us, as we have plenty with Darla being milked too. So Millie only gets milked once a day.

I ran into the girls and they said, "Nanny, we produced a short one-minute video; will you come to a viewing?"

I had no idea they knew how to do such a thing without help from an adult. I asked where they learned to shoot and edit a video (along with music and credits--super cute list at the end) and they said they learned how in their after-school science class.

Anyway, I thought you'd get a kick out of it. Their love of Harry Potter shines through, along with things like our squeeze chute, B&B campsite, etc.

That's really impressive MaryJane. Nearly 65 and don't have a clue how that's done or even how to go about it. Changing times. Loved Harry Potter when Colton read them when a boy. The stories grab you and won't let go. Fun to see another generation enjoying Harry Potter too. My pond family is growing each day. 4 little frogs today.

We love our frogs. It's kind of like an ongoing Where's Waldo conversation. We find them in the darnedest places. The girls found a huge one by the back door last week. That brought up the question, What's the difference between a toad and a frog?

Years ago (and I still have them), I bought several cassette tapes of frog "music." Whenever I traveled, I'd listen to frogs, like when I had to sit on an airplane. One cassette had the sound of rain and a few others had birds singing.

When the frogs in our pond are in their mating season in the spring, they're almost too loud at night, overwhelming the other sounds that are also enjoyable. And then a certain date hits and nada. It's like someone ejected a cassette tape.

Good morning MaryJane and all! The little tree frogs are a curious lot too. We find them in the strangest places. I found a couple in the greenhouse, which is fine. Hanging on the glass of the door we go in and out of. Cute little creatures. Gathering and drying herbs for teas and salves, ointments and tinctures. Winter will be here before we know it and need to gather things while they are still alive and thriving. Picked plantain this morning. Eucalyptus, lemon verbena, lemon balm, nettles, yarrow, rose petals and violet leaf are done. May collect more nettle. Hope everyone has a wonderful day. This is what I saw yesterday out my attic window. The remodel was worth the wait. An immature female oriole.
