After our vet emergency this past week, I thought it might be good to remind everyone to have an established relationship with a vet when you have animals...pretty basic, but an easy task to put off until it's too late. Be sure your vet is familiar with your variety of barnyard critter...ie, don't take your bovine to a small animal vet clinic. And, you should have your vet's number (regular hours and after-hours contact information) already on your phone or posted somewhere so you are not scrambling to find a number during an emergency. It's hard enough to keep thinking clearly without added stress. This small step did help us during our emergency goat birth last week...vet and staff were all set up as we walk in the door so it saved critical minutes.

Loving life and family on our Idaho farm, Meadowlark Heritage Farm; A few Jersey cows; a few alpacas; a few more goats, and even more ducks and chickens

Sage advice indeed.
