If you administer or order your own vaccines, where do you find the best service, quality, and price for vaccines?

thanks mary jane, i got your email also. i have all the paperwork handy, i just need to go through it and see why they think she needs anything right now. i reread the vaccine section in MCK friday night and will do a review of what their email said and let you know what is up ;> it is always possible they just have a goof, or are recommending commercial herd stuff that we don't need.

will report back like a good little cow taker should

Cindy, I can send you the paperwork on Elsa's vaccines again if you need it.

this is timely for me so thanks girls. i just got a notice from the vet that elsa is due for three more vaccines; i need to pull the notice again and research it as one included black leg so i know is essential but the other two were more vague.... back to find that notice...

Yes, I do think I might avoid shipping costs if I bought local at WSU or Lewiston Vet. I was trying to avoid any visit costs, but maybe that isn't necessary if I'm trying to get them for the future goat kids. :)

And, yes, the en masse shopping dictates which goes back to another thread on the article that you posted yesterday. You are purchasing high quality vaccines but just a few of us can't change the market and so the higher and better quality vaccines are no longer available. We can keep trying but there are times it gets discouraging.

I would think the Lewiston Vet Clinic or WSU would sell you what you need to administer those things yourself and you'd avoid shipping costs that way. But I think Bo-Se has always been by prescription, right?

My goal in buying vaccines direct wasn't to administer them myself but to buy higher quality vaccines (more expensive) in order to avoid adjuvants that I think cause lumps and other complications--oil-based. But they're getting harder and harder to come by because the companies who make a better, more expensive vaccine can't do the volume they need to manage it financially. One of the vaccines I used last year on my herd isn't available this year so I had to use a lesser quality on Finnegan and this morning he has loose bowels again. It always seems to come back around to how we shop en masse that dictates what's available.

MaryJane, I was looking at the Valley Vet website last night. Many of the medications need a veterinarian's prescription. Can the veterinarian that you talk with when you call provide the prescription that you need? I give my goats a Bo-Se injection right after birth and now I am finding it difficult or impossible to purchase without a prescription.

Normally, we just ask our vet what we need, and we drive over to get it. Nothing fancy.

I get mine here:
https://www.valleyvet.com/

More than a couple of times, I've called during business hours so I can speak to their veterinarian on call. It's a free service they provide. How cool is that?
