Darla calved yesterday morning around 10:00 a.m. All went well. She had a little heifer that I named Esther. She was up in a few minutes and nursed after she figured out where the teats were located. I think she searched her momma from head to toe before she found what would work. Ha! Darla had an audience, our little neighbor girl and her momma, and of course Millie had to stick her nose in now and again to see how things were coming along. Now, waiting on Millie who looks ready to go anytime. Perhaps today. Beautiful autumn colors and cooler temps are welcome. Praying mantis on my house where the carpenter was putting on new screens.

Your end of the year garden treats look scrumptious. I always anticipate autumn with mixed emotions. My favorite season, but plants are getting prepared for winter slumber. Congrats on AI with Daisy and Buttercup. Nellie never did take and now I will wait until she has been dried up before attempting again. I put Millie outdoors as it was too close inside the parlor, and she wouldn't come back inside in the evening, so an outdoor calving it will be. I turned Darla and calf out too, as the weather is pleasant and everything needs sunshine and the great outdoors. Love your Yellowstone, beautiful work accomplished. I'm not sure I've ever seen a praying mantis cocoon. Perhaps I have and just didn't realize what it was. I will be watching more closely from here out. Will return when I have news about Millie. Enjoy the day!

Another success. Congrats on little Esther. It is hilarious to watch a new calf nose around for the goods. She's pretty! Kind of a fawn-like face and dark chocolatey eyes.

Daisy is pregnant. First try. Fingers crossed for Buttercup (AIed a couple of weeks ago) and Rosetta (two failed attempts so far).

Picked the last of my garden treats day before yesterday's killer frost. Do you believe I'm still eating peaches? About 4 a day with maybe 20 still in my fridge. It was a banner year for peaches (thank you, Janet!).

Got my 1958 Yellowstone finished last week. Five years in the making. She is a thing of beauty.

I saw a bunch of praying mantis cocoons this summer and now mantis this fall--more than I've ever seen before.
