Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, Christmas is up next and we're finally getting winter weather, so it's feeling more holiday-ish festive for sure.

But just last weekend, grandgirl Stella and I were in our "outside living room" enjoying the view and a campfire.

Well, our lovely little Rosetta just finished her third heat, and boy howdy is she ever a moo-er during that time. She doesn't give up for 36 hours, pretty much non-stop, including all night. Let's hope the moo-ing tones down as she ages.

At least I won't have any problem detecting her heat cycle this coming June when it's time for her to be AIed for the first time.

Has anyone started their Christmas baking yet? I have grandgirls taking over in that department.

Good Saturday morning all! No let up here I'm afraid. We're still hoping for the Hannah miracle also. All we can do is keep trying. She requires frequent, smaller, feedings now because of her size and being down. When she eats while down it causes bloat, which crowds her lungs and she can't breathe. It seems like there is a new problem to overcome almost daily. She seems healthy in every respect but has weak legs. Add to this, this morning I noticed I have not one, but two cows in standing heat. So AI guy is coming this evening to AI both gals. It's a first here. I don't recall ever having two in heat at the same time before. So I need to get the Sires picked out for each gal so he knows which to pull for each cow. Cold here with some snow on the ground. Hoping everyone is enjoying family time and good health. Bring on the New Year.

Janet I am just beyond words as to the your determination to get Hanna up and going again. I truely pray for you both. Seeing her laying there she looks like a very healthy calf. She is such a pretty girl. Hopefully the lift will be of help. I keep hoping for the "Hannah Miracle!"

MaryJane, I keep getting teaser pictures of the snow at the Washington house. It snows then the rain comes behind it and it is gone. The elevation there is just a tad under a thousand feet, and at that level there hasn't been any real deep snow as of yet. We were just blanketed with fog here in the valley. This round was cold and wet with no sun during the day. I will take the snow.

Keeping our fingers crossed Janet..

Your photo says it all. Hard not to want to help.

Here is a picture of Hannah today. Growing like a weed but sadly unable to get up or stand on her own. Still working with her but just have to wait and see how things turn out.

What an uphill battle, Janet. And now a seizure. Poor little Hannah. It'll be interested to see what the blood draw tells you.

Looks like winter here too. We had 6-7" dumped on us. Haven't had time to do much of anything except doctor Hannah. Yesterday was quite scary for me as she had a seizure while I was in the milk parlor so I witnessed the whole episode. Awful. I had the vet here this morning and I had him administer magnesium IV. Did blood draws on both Nellie and Hannah. Maybe it will tell us something. We've been lifting Hannah up and having her stand in a "homemade" stand. She can't stand for very long, her legs are so weak. The neighbors teenage boys come and help Joe and I lift her into it and let her stand until I feel she needs to go down again. I ordered a Hoyer lift. Usually used for geriatric patients or ones who aren't able to get up on their own. Hopefully it will work for Hannah and I won't need to bother the neighbor boys. She still takes her bottle three times a day, a little grain, very little hay. So, going to see where we go from here. It's been a fleeting fall and looks like winter will be the same as long as I'm taking care of Hannah. The days start at 4:00 and nightfall comes quickly and we start all over again. Estella has been AI'd as well as Nellie. Don't know as I will do the other two gals, but might. Just taking things one day at a time right now. Enjoy these lovely snow filled days. The campfire would be lovely.
