We're getting several inches of snow tonight (I could hear the grand girls outside late playing in it) and by next week temps are supposed to drop to zero. Snow predicted for the entire week ahead.

Tonight my sweet Miss Daisy is keeping me company while I catch up on bookkeeping. (This rendition has her eyes and expression to a T.)

What's the weather like where you are?

Wow! From your picture it looks like a pretty big sized cabin going up. That would be lovely. Snow storm arrived today. Joe let his help go at 11:00 and he came home around 12:30. Blowing snow, and visibility wasn't good. Good drifts in the country. Still windy, we've had a few raindrops too so that may settle the blowing snow. Electrician was just here to see what he is going to need for the 220 for sauna and we are having him put 220 in the greenhouse for the heater that came with it when it was built. We never installed 220 at the time but will now. Other than that the usual goings on at the farm. Just about to go out and milk and chore, check up on the animals. Good evening for a movie, game of pool or read a book. Oh, the furnace is working again. :)

Someone is building a log cabin along the drive to town on the other side of our ridge. The house overlooks the city of Moscow. I'm going to enjoy seeing it come together. It's rather modest and small. I'll bet someone is feeling pretty lucky and excited.

Yes, anything green through the winter months is a plus. Just picked spinach, kale, arugula, collards, mustard, and some black cherry tomatoes for a salad. I used to have a terrarium in a large jug years ago, also back in the 70's but don't know what became of it. Probably gave it away when I moved. They are fun to make and enjoy. Furnace repairman is back again. I told him the furnace just wasn't doing what it's suppose to, and I don't mind making a fire but with -4 temps and snow storm coming I would like to have heat. Other than that things are quiet and calm.

Such a nice little winter garden you have. Nurturing something green in the dead of winter can be a life support.

Me and terrariums, we go way back. I had a table set up several times/week to sell terrariums I'd made in the student union bldg. when I attended college in the 70s. Students especially loved the big 5-gallon glass versions like yours. Many years later, my father took the 5-gallon terrarium I gave him to the courthouse in Ogden and convinced them to put it on display because it had been permanently corked all those years and was quite the spectacle. It had a little plaque beside it. My father went to great lengths to brag on his children's accomplishments so that was my claim to fame. I can't remember what ever happened to it. I'll have to ask if it's back at their house (my brother's son and family live there now) but a section of the house still holds some of our parents treasures.

Good morning MaryJane! Beautiful prairiescape! 25 degrees this morning. 26 degrees now, but I still manage to get out and freeze my toes too. Very invigorating. Sauna should be here the first part of February. I've never experienced a sauna before so this will be new. I know what it is to sweat when I'm working outside, but this will be different, (purposely sweating) and hopefully quite beneficial. Messed around this morning making a terrarium using one of my old 5 gallon carboys from my winemaking days. I've always like terrariums. Little tiny worlds.

Coytoes yelping are somehow a comforting wild sound as you drift off to sleep. Maybe it comes from some sort of primal memory. Or maybe it's that we know we're safe.

Enjoyed another early morning escape to our PrairieScape. The sun is out but I still managed to freeze my toes.

Any idea when you might be enjoying a sauna?

What fun! Snow is pretty much gone from here at the moment. I spent the morning painting in the basement. Finished all but one corner, and I will do that once we move the freezer out of that room. Pleasant day to be outdoors. Tonight they are talking freezing rain so we will see how bad that gets by morning. All is calm on the farm for now. The furnace has been working most of the time. So glad of that. It will probably decide to quit on the -0 days coming this weekend. Well, it's been a full day and I'm heading up to bed. Stars are bright and the coyotes are close by. Yelping and crying for the last hour. Have a good night!

Boy howdy. We're really getting snowed on, more than a foot at this point. The Rae family just left again for a late night sledding excursion before dinner. Yesterday, I walked straight up our PraireScape hill for photos and the snow was up to my knees where it'd drifted and it's been snowing ever since. The school deemed it a snow day so Meg and the girls (and Layla) followed me up the hill with their sleds.

Gorgeous, just gorgeous and not as cold as they'd predicted, down to around 17 is all.

Hope your furnace is fixed by now, Janet. And Nellie took. I'll know by mid-week next if Daisy took. October babies at this point.

Yes, I was wondering about the moose and the girls too. I would love to see it and have it around but you don't want it to appear out of no where when you least expect it. Wildlife is just that, wild. Just so everyone is on alert. That other "catlife" photo looks harmless. (Jasper) Ha! even he looks like he is on a hunt. Cold here this morning. Furnace is still ill, and I'm burning wood. Making mozzarella this morning. Joe is burning a pile of weeds and such and after lunch we will work on the basement some more. Timer is going off so best get back to the cheese.

Hoping things are coming up roses ... and your furnace is feeling better.

It's continuing to snow here. I snapped a few wildlife photos this morning, right out my back door.

We've had a resident moose spending the nights nearby. I'm not all that comfortable with it being so close because of the grand girls. Moose have lightning quick hooves and a l-o-n-g stride, one to my every 10.

Good evening! I like your rendition of your Miss Daisy, so pretty. We woke with 5 degree temperatures this morning, a little bit of snow but not measurable. More cold and more snow to come, but so glad that we had the nice weather we had up until now. Yesterday Nellie surprised me by coming in heat, so I had her AI'd this morning about 6:30. Our furnace isn't working properly so we had our repairman come look at it, but he couldn't find anything wrong, but yet it's still not working properly. Thankfully we have the wood stove to take the chill off. We will have to have him back on Monday. Busy cleaning, painting and moving things around to make room for a sauna in the basement. Always seems to be more work than time to get it all done but we keep working. With the cooler temps and more snow I will be enjoying some reading time and leafing through the new David Austin Rose catalog. Love the new roses. Enjoy your weekend!
