We will be milking soon and I had an idea ro make a milk chiller out of a chest freezer with an external thermostat to keep the temp about 32 deg. Put in tubs with water and then drop in the milk jugs to cool the milk down. I assume 30-32 deg would work quick enough. If not I guess you could drop the temp and use a mixture of rv antifreeze and water. anybody ever tried this?

The bottle set-up I have would work just fine for you, especially if you're only going to have one cow. Also, the small bottles are easier to clean than that big jug would be. I like milking two teats at a time because it's more relaxing. Staying on top of 4 bottles filling is a bit more tense. I have an extra splitter and tubing and have done it using four but it doesn't speed anything up much other than your pulse.

I bought my pooper scooper at my local hardware store by the broom section. I think it's really a dust pan for when you don't want to bend over while sweeping. I will see if I can find one online for you. I have two. Just yesterday, Daisy was nervous with so many noisy kids in the parlor with me and pooped (using up one of my scoops) and then she peed (using up the other one). She almost never pees, but boy was I glad to catch it and dump it outside. Pee is worse than poop I think. It splashes and goes everywhere. It's easy to tell when it's about to happen. They shift their weight and kind of shuffle their hind legs and then their tail starts to lift. You get plenty of warning.

Thanks MJ. I ordered the bottle setup like you use in the video thinking if it was good enuf for MJ it was gud enuf for me. Now I am reconsidering. Shoulda talked to you first!! It does add about 5 bills extra. I wanted to ask you what the name of that nifty pooper scooper you use with the handle. where did you get that?I am going to try to do a slavish copy of your parlor with all your nifty ideas. Maybe I don't need to go nutso on this but you know how it is when the baby's arrival is close...........frantically doing the baby's room!!! And I'm not even a woman. Daisy Mae sez HI. Regards from snowmageddon.

I just watched Buck's video for his new EZ Bucket Milker. I didn't know he'd invented it. It's brilliant!!!! I'd use that in a heartbeat on my girls.

His warning at the end about cleaning the milk out of the tubes pronto is good. The way his old EZ works, there is never milk in a tube, just air. Milk + tubes require attention to detail quickly. The quick rinse he demonstrated would be essential I think. And then to actually clean them, I suppose I'd run a dab of Liquifan dairy soap through and then rinse with warm, almost hot, water and then spray a bit of 200 ppm bleach water in each tube because they never really dry out, even if you hang them to dry. Tubes love to grow mold if you aren't diligent. And using a brush to clean them wouldn't work so great--Buck's tubes are soft and pliable, so it would be hard to run a brush through. The dairy industry does have brushes for tubing that are connected to a long plastic cable for the purpose of cleaning a tube but the softness of Buck's tubing would make it hard to push it through and out the other end I think, but I don't know that for sure.

Hugh, the new battery set-up he has looks great. Mine is his solar set-up that requires a battery. I would just go with his Bucket Milker package. Keeping cows away from a solar panel isn't easy.

Wow Mary Jane. Your videos are first rate. Jaw dropping efficiency. Your milking parlor is to die for. We could do surgery in there! I was on the verge of ordering from Buck. I noticed you used bottles and only do 2 teats @ a time. Have you seen his 4 teat machine option with a centralized pail. Would like your opinion on that. Advantages, disadvantages? Didin't see any mention from the girls on that. Obviously cheaper. whatdya think? I see you still have snow. I lived in SE Idaho and snow was minimal, not like Wyoming! regards

That sounds like a good plan. Here's the system I came up with for cooling my milk.

Also, Hugh, you might take a gander at the series of videos I shot recently of me milking with an EZ Milker.
