Betsy delivered her third calf this morning with no complications! Again, she managed to calve with no witnesses! I have yet to witness a calf birth on our farm. Oh well. She’s doing great and the little bull calf is up nursing and doing great as well. Maybe next year she’ll give us a heifer?? Oh well. We’ve already had someone offer to buy him so we will decide in the next day what our plans will be. He could be “HumbleToo” as our first bull calf was named “Humble” after my son’s favorite burger place in our town. Not sure I want to deal with a calf though. Our freezers are plum full but in a year or so ... anyway, at the moment, he’s one handsome dude!

Thank you Janet. I’m very thankful that Clover is doing well so far.

What’s up with Darla?

Charlene, I'm so sorry. Thankful that Clover is okay, but saddens me the little heifer was stillborn. It's hard sometimes. I'm having issues will Darla. Not sure how things will work out. Sweet Baby Ray is a great name. Best to you and yours Charlene.

Thank you Janet. Yesterday was sad. Clover delivered a stillborn heifer calf. The front legs were stiff and bent at the knees. One leg was bent up almost backward. Funny thing is that Clover licked baby all over but never mooed after we took the baby away. Milked five gallons of colostrum out of her though!

Makes me even more grateful for Betsy and her little boy. We already banded him and are calling him Sweet Baby Ray. It’s a family favorite bbq sauce as someday he will feed our family. But now he’s just a sweetheart and we are enjoying seeing him with Betsy.

Back to daily milking and hopefully we will have some milk we can use in the next few days!

Time flies doesn’t it, Janet? If you are still in touch with Ron, please let him know about Betsy. We love her!

Glad everything went without a hitch Charlene. Betsy's third calving. Where does the time go? Congrats on the new little guy.
