SOLD 1/22/18. Jersey cow in milk for sale. M’lady is in excellent health, up to date on her vaccinations (including Bang’s), tests negative for Q-fever, TB, BVD, BLV, and Johne’s, and recently had her hooves trimmed. Currently she’s being milked once per day and is giving 1 1/2 to 2 gallons. She is pregnant, due Sept. 15, 2018. She’s excellent in the milking parlor and stands ready to serve. Her udder and teats are perfect for both machine or hand milking. She is naturally polled and is A2A2. She does best with a limited amount of grain, mostly silage (Chaffhaye) and good grass hay and pasture. Her milk is 6.9 percent fat and 4.5 protein (excellent!) Her pedigree can be traced back to the Jersey Isle. She is double registered with both AJCA and HJO. She calves easily and without complication. She is $3,000 and worth every penny. Call 208-882-0307 or email cattle@maryjanesfarm.org

Her markings are uniquely beautiful and her black velvet face is striking.

First, she's cleaned outside our milking parlor.

M'lady's always happy to come into our milking parlor.

She gets a mixture of Chaffhaye (alfalfa silage) and Modesto organic soy-free grain pellets that have diatomaceous earth and vitamins and minerals. This is the only time she'll get a bit of grain.

Notice that she wasn't hobbled. Because I brought her here as an adult, she doesn't love to be hobbled (we train our calves not to object to a hobble because it can be essential when doing vet care). Whenever we've tried to hobble her, she tries to see if it's free and sort of bucks against the hobble with her foot. It's not a big deal, but it's more relaxing to milk her without a hobble. In this video we're doing our daily California Mastitis Test. This also serves the purpose of "stripping" her (discarding the first milk from each teat before milking).

Next, we dip each teat in iodine teat dip and let it do its thing for 90 seconds.

Then we check the mastitis test. All clear!

We wipe the iodine off with each teat with a fresh paper towel.

Then we use a disinfecting wet wipe for each teat.

Finally, we turn the Ultimate EZ Milking Machine on. It's very quiet and relaxing, just the way we like it.

Now, she'll fill the bottles over and over again as we dump them into a 2 1/2-gallon stainless steel bucket w/lid.

gorgeous! someone will be very lucky indeed.

of course with sally not reproducing as expected our household is not sure if we should wait two months for bea to calve and be ready to milk again, or if we should add to the herd ASAP. of course, a long haul trip to idaho at this time of year with three little girls isn't exactly on my plate ;> but it is tempting!

for anyone else out there, maryjane is the most perfect person in the world to adopt a cow from. she gives you all the truth up front, has high expectations from her cows so you know how great they will be, and then acts as a long-term knowledgebase for all your ongoing bovine questions.
