About 45 minutes after I posted last, I got a call saying that Applebutter was in labor. I was in town, about 4 miles away. AppleButter was in labor for about 2 hours before having a healthy heifer calf! We did have to pull the calf. We got the calf said with colostrum in it and AppleButter milked. She only kicked a little bit. She has a very nice udder! I decided to name the calf HoneyButter. She is adorable!! I think she looks almost exactly like AppleButter did when I got her at 6 days old. She is larger than AppleButter was I got her. It has been a very long day and I have to milk tomorrow at 6 AM but it is definitely worth it!! I can't wait to make butter! I got 20 pounds of milk! I don't know what I'll do with it all!!

Well of course Sydney, You've got AppleButter butter, and next you will have HoneyButter butter, how can you go wrong. Your's will be that much sweeter. You picked good names for your cows Sydney.

Thank you! Yesterday I pasteurized the milk from the morning milking. I made butter in the afternoon. The freshest butter you can probably ever get! It was delicious! I am so thankful for all of the help that I have gotten from everyone(on HJO and otherwise!). It is so great!

congrats sydney, such an inspiration to us all! my husband and i were admiring your photo, you and applebutter and honeybutter are such a team. i am so happy for you.

keep us posted with all your progress. i don't know about your family, but we are a raw milk family so do not thermize or pasteurize our milk. i have so much fun taking warm fresh milk right after milking and turning it into yogurt, cheese, etc. no matter how you like your milk, we will all appreciate hearing what you do with it.

Sounds as if you have it all in hand and working great. So thankful and happy momma and calf are doing well. Be sure to keep us in photographs of AppleButter and HoneyButter.

Thank you! I am very happy! I have been waiting for about 4 years to get a milking cow! HoneyButter is doing great, she gets tired easily when drinking the bottle, but she tried to jump and play this morning! AppleButter will be a great little milk cow when she gets the hang of things. She kicked a little bit, but her udder is still sore. I am using old equipment that needed to be fixed, it took a bit of work, but now it looks brand new! She gave 17 pounds of milk this morning! We froze the extra colostrum to have on hand if we need it for any of our other cows. I am very glad that it all worked out!

Oh Oh Oh!!! Congratulations Sydney! I am so thrilled and happy for you. What a little sweetheart. And a little heifer to boot. You must be over the moon. Glad everything is okay and momma and "HoneyButter" are doing well. Great photos. The smile on your face says it all. We've all been waiting for this. ENJOY!!!

Fantastic news Sydney! I love the photo of you and HoneyButter (such a cute and fitting name!). You've been diligently working towards this goal for a very long time. You must be so very proud of the end result and now the milk, the milk, the milk. And butter!
