In the mail yesterday, I saw an advertisement for a sensor that would notify you when your cow was about to deliver. Is this for real? I am wondering if it would actually work.

It is a tail mounted device that detects the cow's activity and it will send a text message up to two phones (!) when it senses that the cow would deliver within an hour.

It is called a Moocall Calving Sensor. I can only imagine the lifted eyebrows when I would get a text. "Oh that's Betsy letting me know that she's planning on calving within the hour. I'd best be going now." haha!

This would be used a lot around here if it also worked for goats.

I read through their website and listened to some of the MooCall's reviews. I wonder how accurate it is in a place where cell phones don't always work. I would assume that if you have 24-hour reliable cell phone coverage, you'd have yourself an alert system. $355 and some shipping might be worth several nights of sleep, not to mention the peace of mind it would give.
