good evening everyone. we were up before the dawn this morning, to houston and back to spend time with lover boy's family. got the cows up two hours earlier than normal, sally was actually just a doll about it all. her patience and trust with me is just amazing now.

ron and mike, i am choked up on behalf of y'all. i am glad things are moving forward in your lives, that is a blessing. but the cows going away do make me said. thanks for the photos ron, it is a blessing indeed for y'all to send such sweet cows to other families.

charlene, tell cecily she looks like a super star! thats a long day for sure. glad it is behind you/her now.

take care, stay warm, sleep tight. blessings from east texas.

Plenty of cow migration today. New horizons for everyone even the cows, including new hips for Mike.

And perhaps new gear for Cecily. Thanks for the pics, Charlene!!!!

Hard days all around. Wishing all the cows happiness in their new homes.

New homes for the cows. Never know what's coming down the road. You may have cows in your futures again, Ron and Mike. Time will tell. Hope we get follow-up from time to time. Never did warm up much here Ron and the wind makes it brrrrrr! Good to hear Clover is doing fine again Charlene.

My cows left half an hour ago for my friend Rory's herd. He's up to twenty milking now, with the three we had and the one due to freshen soon. And still two for April.
Now we have to load the one I gave the neighbour girls that they don't want now, and Flying Cow......she made good on her name and split! Got her back in now but the truck is gone. We will load her out ASAP and take her up to Rory's in our pig hauler. Be nice to visit with them, haven't seen he or Bobbie in a while. Nice thing is, when my hips are fixed, we can get a cow back with no problems.

Now, just have to move the big Mule Foot pig herd and we'll be down to ten or so pigs, nine horses and the damned dog that barks..

Oh, the little calf ear warmers didn't show up yet..... so Janet, watch YOUR mailbox. Anyone else need an ear warmer? Got two of the ones from Montana and two from Iowa, the ones with the red ear floppers.

Ron, no tears here, yet. When I think about it, after the fact, then tears will come. The frustration of having Flying Cow get out kind of cooled things...... Little calf is happy, she got to ride in the back seat of the haulers truck. My first heifer in thirty years.....been a long time since we had cows. Hauler thought the coes looked REALLY GOOD!~ His words.

Good morning all,

So thankful it is a Saturday and I get to stay HOME today. Our daughter's gait study appointment was five hours long yesterday with lots of walking for her. She said she is a bit sore today. She walked with and without her orthotics, barefoot, and with a mask to see how much oxygen she was using while walking. Quite interesting! In another few weeks, we'll return for a follow-up and see what their recommendations are; basically, what method gives her the best walking posture without future problems. Whew...

My heart goes out to you Ron today. We would love to see photos of your new abode and it will be so lovely and so much more accessible. Life will be easier. And Harriet and Norman will have a wonderful home ... I bet their new family is extremely excited and pleased today.

I made sour cream Thursday and it is wonderful! Never will get store bought again!! After reading the article MaryJane posted regarding Jersey chocolates, I'm thinking that just might inch its way up on my to-do list. After this past week, I'm thinking chocolate or caramel might just be the ticket! :)

Clover is looking really good now. She had some bad diarrhea this week and we were concerned. But such good lessons learned. Always take a temperature three times and take the average temp. Check water source (which was fine) and don't be surprised that her milk supply goes down a bit after a round of diarrhea. Always have Ester C around (we did! but ordered more to be prepared next time). I was just going over it all with Ethan this morning ... he's learning a ton and I am always still learning. I really think that Clover got into some old hay. Ethan was doing some deep cleaning in her shelter. At least that's my theory at the moment. :)

Enjoy your day everyone! It is been raining a lot here so we have lots and lots of mud.

Good morning MaryJane! Guess again. This is a Goldfinch, Iowa state bird. We have house finches and purple finches also. The bird in the background is a female house finch. I'm hoping by putting heat in the floors of my barn I can avoid ice. It's hard to know for sure what would be ideal. I had to put my gals/calves back in the barn again this morning. The wind was cutting even though it's from the south. Hopefully the sun will warm things up today. Just had some flurries. Enjoy that health tonic MaryJane. Really isn't anything so satisfying.

Good morning Janet and Ron. Today's bird is a warbler or maybe a vireo? Lovely photo. Lovely bird. Suet feeder?

I'll be thinking of you today Ron. Hard day indeed. It's good you have a new place to look forward to. We hope you'll share lots of photos as you get settled in so we can move with you.

Off for my health tonic plus an extra scrub to one of my cow's sleep sheds today. Ethan mucked it all the way out yesterday and now I'm going to give it a good scrub. Where the cows walk is a solid sheet of ice about 4 inches thick, kind of a mucky covered ice rink. I've seen Finnegan and Sweet William fall because they were playing. My grown-up girls seem to know to be careful on it.

Yes, don't care for the hard choices, but real life does have a way of coming home. I'm hoping I am able to hold out for a while yet. I take it one day at a time. Breathe and face another day…. Yes, family care comes first. It's just Joe and I and the milk cows, the milk cows are my health tonic. So far it's working. ;)
Ron Posted - Jan 23 2016 : 05:27:21 AM
Thanks Janet..your a doll for sure...I guess admit it or not to ourselves...there comes a time when your kind of on your own you have to make the hard life style choices, right? People come first and their care...anyway a happy day..my beloved friends are going to a farm with all the amenities where all along that was my goal..supply family farms with quality milk cows...in a way mission accomplished .

Good morning Ron and Elaine. Well, my heart is right there with you friend. We will miss Harriet and Norman, but perhaps the folks who will have and care for them now, will be good enough to let you know how they come along, and then you update us. They have a family history here on HJO. Hugs are coming to you and hope it helps to bolster you along. Tears are healthy, shows you care and feel with your heart. You will be in my thoughts today as always. Take care you two.
