Hi Everyone,
We are in the southwest corner of Colorado near Mesa Verde. The hubs and I bought a 10.5 acre piece of land about 2 years ago and have started a little homestead. Well, we are trying anyway. Still working on finishing our house. We just got our first family milk cow, named Shirley. She was out on the range with a bunch of beef cattle! We also have 17 chickens, 5 alpacas, a dog, a nubian goat, a mule, and a Fell pony. Whew! I'm hoping to get going with making all our own dairy products come spring and learning how to can and preserve food, and get a garden going next year. Loving the lifestyle, but we are definitely newbies to all of this. Love the Milk Cow Kitchen book and glad to be a part of this site. :)

Welcome! Sorry I'm so late to say welcome, I have a bunch of animals too, a little Jersey heifer, about ten beef cattle, eleven horses, a donkey, a bunch of chickens, and three dogs(My family owns a greenhouse business, my grandparents have some dogs too). I'm in southern Minnesota.

I'm new here too! Hi, mountainhodag, from another newbie! I'll go formally introduce myself too in a new thread. Sounds like you have a lot going on and lots to share with us.

Welcome!!!! You'll find plenty of big-hearted cowpanions here, enough to fill a washtub.

Hi! Welcome from the mitten state (Michigan) :) Sounds like you have a wonderful homestead started! My husband and I are also new to learning homesteading, having just got our first animals this Summer. This site has been such a blessing as I've been learned the ropes on having our first family milk cow. I grew up with various other farm animals, but never a cow, so this was ALL new! Great group of cow-lovers here who are always willing to answer your questions. Love it so much! Welcome!

A warm welcome from northern Idaho! We just moved to our land six years ago and have started our collection of farm animals.

You certainly have a variety! Do you shear your alpacas? And do you use their fiber?

Please don't hesitate to jump right in with questions, comments, things you've learned, etc. As Janet mentioned we learn lots from each other. It is a great group!

Midwest, IA here. Welcome mountainhodag! Your homestead sounds exciting. You have quite the collection of livestock. Would love to hear more about them and pictures. Interesting story already about how you came by Shirley. Love meeting new folks on the chatroom and sharing our experiences. We all learn from each other, no matter how new or veteran.
