I found what's called a "debris pan" at my local feed store. It's basically a dustpan with a long handle and a flip mechanism so you don't have to bend over.

Anyway, after I've settled in to start milking, I place it right behind my cow so I can lift it up behind her tail the minute I see that tail start to go up (Yes, I know you can push down on the tail to stop her urge--but I've had mixed results with that cow tale).

So for sanitation purposes, I keep my Ultimate EZ milking bottles on, grab the handle of the debris pan and put it right up under her tail. Poop goes in and there's no splatter matter whatsoever anywhere. I've also caught pee in it. After I'm done milking, I take it outside and put it in the manure pile. Because the debris pan is plastic and lightweight, I hose it out and we're good to go again, me and my cow(s).

I should add that my girls are for the most part potty trained during my morning milking routine, but every now and then, they get the urge to purge. I'm all about mellow when I'm around my cows so a debris pan keeps all the yellow and smell-o contained while keeping everything sanitary and sane.

I know the poop trail. Plop, plop, plop. Mop, mop, mop.

Good idea on the super duper pooper scooper! Elli is not quite "trained" in this area. Today she waited until I was all done milking. I had her lubed up and sprayed down, let her out of the stanchion and she left me a poop trail on her way out the door. It couldn't really be called a pile as she was walking when she did it. :) It sounds like I need a debris pan.
