Hello everyone! How can 2019 be half gone? Where was spring? It seems to me that too many things are happening and keeping us busy that we don't realize how quickly the time goes until it's gone. It's been one busy time around here. My attic is near completion. Moving books up daily. Two new calves, Ottis and Estella. Roses abound with beauty and aroma. Gardens are doing well. The new livestock tank pond is doing good, pond plants growing. Not finished with it yet, still need to put the 3'x12' rough around the tank. Honey flow is keeping the honey bees and me hopping. Added 5 supers this morning after milking. Another swarm captured yesterday, and Darla's calving the same day, I was exhausted last evening to say the least. I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your Spring/Summer.

Good morning! That's one of the highlights of my day MaryJane, taking a walkabout. It's usually just a look around on my way too and from the parlor. And it never fails I can't get there or back without stopping and weeding. Sometimes I lose track of time. (yes, I have that many weeds.) Many flower beds that need tending. I planted 10 roses this spring too. All in bloom and some trimmed back for the next round. Good to get rain at the right time. The roses and most new plants this spring relish and thrive on it. We are getting rain again today. Cool with a nice breeze. Enjoy the day and walkabouts!

A Judi Dench rose! Perfect. And fitting.

I've been out admiring this and that I've planted over the years. Just a simple walkabout to admire. I rarely do that. Even so, I couldn't resist pulling a weed here and there.

We received close to a half inch of rain in the last couple of days. Our rains have had impeccable timing this spring. Just when plants have started to get thirsty, the clouds have displayed their wonderment.

I planted 10 more roses this year!!!! All are blooming, some more fragrant than others, but an absolute joy.

I like the little patches of white also. I was hoping the calf would have more, but a little white tipped tail is great. What animal doesn't like a bit of loving and attention, and treats? That added touch or affection just may be the best part of their day, and ours. Raining here today, mommas have their calves out in it. They can go into shelter if they like but haven't so far. Looks to be a wet one. Inside work today. Have a good one! This is David Austin rose "Judi Dench" that I just planted this spring. What a beauty and fragrance is outstanding.

I do love a touch of white, especially on the tail or a spot on the forehead.

Four floors up, perfect for a book nook. It turned out beautiful, Janet. Communing with the birds. I'm flour floors up. From my office window, I can watch my cows and the birds singing are at eye level.

When I brought Maggie and Lizzy up from pasture tonight, they kinda didn't want me to go, you know, as in, "No treats?"

Oh, I forgot to tell you, little Estella must have got her tail dipped in the paint bucket, as it's white tipped. Cute as can be. Book nook with twin size area to read. Feels like you're in a tree house. Four floors up and you are in the tops of the trees. Quiet except for birdsong.

Good morning! Yes, the bees have done exceptionally well this year. I can't keep up. Almost feeling overwhelmed. On one particular day, I had three swarms. I was ready to throw in the towel. It was hot and steamy, and with a suit on, well you know. Two swarms went high in the pines and one in a walnut tree. The last time was in an oak and not so high up. Six swarms so far this year. Whew. Love em, but they can be a handful sometimes. I have two of the Swarm Catch boxes and I put them on two hives and that slowed things up a bit until I could get more supers on. Put the last swarm in a swarm box so I can put them in my horizontal hive. Planning on more horizontal hives as I really like them. I keep a solar pump in the tank that keeps water moving. Also put in oxygenating plants. We haven't finished the outside appearance yet, and plan on having the water run down over rocks into the pond, but Joe and I have been under the weather and I don't think I can manhandle those long heavy planks myself. Perhaps this weekend we will get it completed. The bees get on the lilies pads and I have some surface areas they can use. I really enjoy it.

Roses never cease to amaze me--the smell, the beauty. No wonder someone once said take time.

Your attic looks so bright and sunny. What a good idea for a book nook.

My bees are driving me crazy this year. I've had 3 swarms so far this past week, always right while I'm milking, swarms gathering on the steepest hill at our farm--I could barely stand up while Connie cut the branch and I lowered the swarm CAREFULLY into a box so I could carry it to my bee porch where I had an empty hive ready and waiting. I did get two more hives out of the deal. And I was glad Connie could make an emergency run out to help me. With one of the swarms, Connie found the queen on the porch after we thought we had most of them in their new hive, but when Connie went to pick her up and put her in the hive with all the bees, she flew off, so the bees eventually followed her. I'm hoping today I can just milk and not worry about another swarm. They have plenty of room in their hives; my guess is I'm just not keeping up with the swarm cells they're building and there's an abundance of nectar this year.

I only have one swarm catch. Bees can come and go with this gadget but the queen can't get out.

Sounds like you're having a banner year for bees also.

Tell me more about your stock tank pond? How are you aerating it or are you?
