I had just unpacked several boxes of cat litter on the front porch and left the boxes to be broke down and recycled, but when I went to get the boxes and start folding, I found momma cat had moved her six kittens into one of the boxes piled inside the other boxes. I couldn't kick them out so the front porch looks like the recycle center for cardboard boxes. She did this within minutes. Pretty sneaky.

How irresistible. A litter of kittens in a box. Furry cuteness.

You asked about the smokes effect on animals. You know I think the bad air is getting to Jasper. Either that or the vaccinations the vet gave him this past week. He's unusually lethargic. My cows seem unaffected. So far, I'm okay and not experiencing the sore throat and eye irritations that others here are. Grandgirls are fine. But yeah, it's pea soup and there is a fine grit over everything. Can't be good for our lungs. The wind picked up a hour or so ago and I got hopeful thinking it might blow some of it away but all it did was blow even more dense smoke our way. According to the news, Idaho has more active fires right now than any other state. There isn't anything burning dangerously close to us but a couple of places I've lived in the past have been evacuated. Our firefighters get a heroes nod for sure. Canada has sent special planes down that are scooping water off the Dworshak dam (where Nick and boys go fishing every spring) and depositing the water on our fires. What skill. We watched an online video of a plane coming in for a belly load. Can you imagine the variables the pilot would have to manage in order to do that? Seems impossible actually.

Thankful you're not really close. Bad enough as it is. I'm hoping it clears away sooner than later. Thinking of you all. Yes, the skill the pilots must have and it's a life threatening and dangerous work they do. Brave and heroic for sure. Firefighters on the ground are amazing folks too. My friend's husband used to take time off every summer just to battle fires. How courageous. You and family stay safe dear lady. (I know when I give distemper shots to my "cat gang" they sleep more.)

Darling kittens! I'd love a couple if my barn ever gets completed! I would love some mice police.

I wish all those who are affected by forest fires and smoke, good rain and God's blessings. It's hard to believe it's so bad in Iowa. Iowa tends not to be in the forefront of Massachusetts news. Cute kittens. Maybe one of them or all of them will become good ratters!

Did Iowa have the smoke as well? I sure hope not! Or is Ginger getting Iowa mixed up with Idaho? So very common, unfortunately! I lived in MA as a young child and when my parents decided to move back to Idaho, everyone kept getting confused and thought we were moving to Iowa. Just a hop and a skip further west to get to Idaho...

Anyway, we were blessed with beautiful rains over the weekend and our air is finally clear! So very delightful to breathe deeply outside and not have sore throats, hurting lungs or eyes.

Still would love a couple of your kittens, Janet, to live in my future barn. Have you found homes for all of them yet?

I've heard that sometimes Janet delivers kittens to Billings, MT. However, if that ever happens again, I expect to have a visitor, right Janet? :) Hugs are so much better in person.

Yes Charlene, we will be finding homes for most of them. Yes I've been known to drive to Billings, and here and there to deliver kittens. Have kittens, will travel. Lol Keeley. I would love to meet you someday Keeley. Just don't know if that will ever transpire or not. I'm up to my neck in things I don't even want to have to deal with but there is no choice. Too much happening here and too many things to take care of at this time to be going anywhere. There are days I want to get in a vehicle and just drive and not stop. Anyway, perhaps someday in the future. Until then, (((hugs))) Keeley.

Now, that kitten photo is absolutely classic adorable. I could kiss everyone of them! You are such a good cat mom, Janet. Jasper says good morning.

Do you actually think we have mice here? Ha! No, they were watching Lionel, the male siamese cat, at the time I took the picture. He was playing with them earlier. You want all six of them right Mike?

What a cute, cute photo! Wish I could come and give you a helping hand, Janet. But I'd want you to know that I'd probably leave with a kitten or two snuggled under an arm. :-)

Ha! I have two sets of Wynken, Blynken, and Nod. Cute names for sleepy little kittens. I'd hope for you to leave with kittens in every pocket Charlene. :) Too bad it's time for Nellie and Sienna to be dry because they just love cow's milk.

Perfect names for kittens ... guess I would need to snuggle out three instead of two! :-)

We have a friend who is overrun with kittens right now. We are somewhat overrun with mice in the milking area and chicken coop. The mice keep reproducing and while I milk I'll see little flashes run along the plywood of the wall. A friend said peppermint oil is supposed to keep them at bay, but I think it just invigorated them. Fresh breath and all. Anyway, if we get some kittens to help us with the problem I think we need three as well. The mama cat is a calico and she has a black striped kitten, a grey striped kitten, and an orange striped kitten. How do you not get a complete set of stripes? She has some grey and white ones (not striped) too, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. Lol!

I totally understand your need to stay home right now and get things taken care of, Janet. I'm just putting it out there that if you are ever delivering anything my way it's a requirement to stop for hugs. :)

Nothing I would love more than jump into a camper in the autumn of the year and meander slowly across the states and view the beauty around us. However… Perhaps someday Keeley. I would love to meet you, and perhaps enjoy a cup of coffee and cream as we discuss our lovely cows/bull/steers. Three cats not so bad, 20+ a tad too many. :)

Cats are great to have..I think between them and the dog even the skunks, coons and other critters have moved on....

Well, watching kittens at play is good medicine. Sweet and innocent little things. Then they grow up. Watch out!
